My grandmother Ella Mae Brown (aka Mae Mae) was the only hope I had left, a big bundle of joy in my heart. My heart always beats for her because of the way she lived her life so outspoken and freely. Her death broke our family apart because her and her ways is what kept us all together. She was a funny character in all of our lives and truthfully grandma was always right about everything no matter how she told it. Thanks to my grandmother I got more into my faith and started my journey with God then a pencil, a piece of paper and the blessings from up above is all that I needed to keep me going. One big thing I would say about her death is that everyone felt it, she made generations hurt because she truly was a special, inspirational, strong and beautiful black woman. My grandmothers' feet marched along side with the kings and Queens of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech/ march and if she was still alive today shed happily brag about it, making us all realize the true importance of life, freedom and equality. Her funeral was so emotional for everyone but one thing I will always remember about her is grandmothers' room and purse was off limits for everyone! (Until We Knew She Was Sick...) So, when you feel down, smile for the happy times and memories because that's what our angels watching over us want us to do! I hold my grandmother Mae Mae in my heart every day and I love to sit next to my mom who beautifully still wears her robe today, a happy little reminder of her daily.
